The Parliament of Cambodia is the legislative body of the Kingdom of Cambodia. It is responsible for making and passing laws, as well as overseeing the government's activities and policies. Comprising two chambers, namely the National Assembly and the Senate, the Parliament represents the will of the Cambodian people and ensures their voice is heard in the decision-making process.
The National Assembly is the lower house of Parliament and consists of elected representatives known as Members of Parliament (MPs). These MPs are elected by the people through a direct voting system and serve a five-year term. The National Assembly holds the primary role in lawmaking, approving the national budget, and scrutinizing the actions of the government.
On the other hand, the Senate represents the interests of different regions and provides a platform for regional voices to be heard. Senators are appointed by the King, the National Assembly, and the Council of Ministers. The Senate reviews and revises laws proposed by the National Assembly, ensuring their conformity with the constitution and promoting balanced decision-making.
Together, the National Assembly and the Senate form the Parliament, which works towards creating a democratic and representative government in Cambodia.
