Bile is produced by the liver and stored and concentrated in the gallbladder before being released into the common bile duct.
The common bile duct is formed by the merging of two smaller ducts: the hepatic duct, which drains bile from the liver, and the cystic duct, which connects the gallbladder to the common bile duct. It passes through the head of the pancreas, where it may merge with the pancreatic duct before reaching the duodenum.
Any obstruction or blockage in the common bile duct can lead to serious medical conditions, such as jaundice, gallstones, or pancreatitis, which can result in significant pain, inflammation, and impaired digestion.
